M25
I, Ludicrous

Building London's orbital motorway
Has taken the government 40 years
But still it remains incomplete
In that time the cost has escalated
Along with the rise in the volume of traffic
Now action groups fight the motoway ban
Where it means the destruction of farmland
Some of it is judged picturesque
One day the circle will be drawn
And the new motorway will be used heavily
The old farms forgotten except on out of date maps
Cars will take less time to make certain journeys
Maidstone to Heathrow for example
Road traffic will be encouraged
Though the distances traveled will often be far greater
Speaking personally I can't see myself using it much
Except when visiting old relations in Somerset
Or playing cricket in Kent
In these chaotic days road building requires patience and determination
Lobby groups form to oppose the most innocuous of schemes
The powers that be are on the horns of a dilemma
Between the efficient flow of traffic
And the preservation of countryside
Whatever is decided upsets someone somewhere
So is the greater good served best by preservation or transportation?
Don't allow the guardian to dominate such an important issue
Write to MPs - tell them what you think of the M25
The M25

London's orbital motorway
You can die on the M25
And you can drive on the M25

It's not a race track
Remember safety is paramount
Let's use it wisely
The M25
