Too many times in the last few years
The street life's been my way
I've been drifting around from town to town
Trying to make pay
But everyone I stop in
They just turn me away
It's just hard to get your feet on the ground
When you've got no place to stay
And all I own is this old suitcase that I hide down by the track
It holds a picture of my mom and dad
With a letter that reads, Please, somebody, come back my ex-girlfriend's worn out necklace and a book I never read
A church key and some bottle caps and a tiny bag of seeds
I tried to sleep last night but it was so damn cold and nowhere to get warm
I finally drifted off into a dream and a place that I called home
The front porch up on mountain view you'd never hear a sound
There's just a nice, warm breeze blowing through the trees
And not this cold, hard ground
I started hiking yesterday, I didn't see a car for miles
My mind is wearing thin now and I've misplaced my smile
I wished I had the courage, I'd call you on the phone
With a little luck I might get picked up and find my way back home
And all I own is this old suitcase that I hide down by the track
It holds a picture of my mom and dad
With a letter that reads, Please, somebody, come back my ex-girlfriend's worn out necklace and a book I never read
A church key and some bottle caps and a tiny bag of seeds
