So, I'm standing on the Southeast corner
of 2nd Avenue and East Houston Street
in New York City, three years ago,
at three in the morning on a Monday night,
or a Tuesday morning.
I'm waitin' for the stoplight,
I'm comin' home from a gig,
I've got my guitar,
on the Southeast corner
of 2nd Avenue and East Houston Street
in New York, New York, USA, Earth.
There's this old guy;
his name's Carlos, he's
sitting in a wheelchair across from me.
So, I take out my guitar,
and I'm like HEY!
And this guy Carlos, he's like Hey, my name's Carlos!
And I'm like HEY, CARLOS!
And he's like
so there's this girl Alicia, and
this girl is on FIRE.
But her manager doesn't know
that THIS GUY'S ON FIRE!
And I'm like WHO?
WHAT GUY?!
WHO'S THIS GUY
WHO'S ON FIRE?!
And this guy Carlos is like
That's me! I'm Carlos!
There's this girl Alicia;
she's on fire, but her manager doesn't know,
that THIS GUY'S ON FIRE!
And I'm like Carlos is on fire,
and Alicia doesn't know,
'cause she's famouser than anyone I know.
He's just an old man in a wheelchair
singin' for strangers,
in hopes that one day she'll see;
in hopes that one day she'll notice.
Carlos is on fire, and Alicia soon will know
that he's fierier than anyone she knows;
and I'm just Cannonball Statman with a guitar.
Yeah, really, that's
all I know,
and I'm not ready for this;
I'm not ready for this fire.
SO KEEP YOUR COPYRIGHT!
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE IT!
SAVE IT FOR SOMEONE WHO REALLY NEEDS IT!
Carlos is on fire, and Alicia soon will know
he's fierier than anyone else.
